There is a general misconception that working for a charity
means working for free. Whilst some positions will not
result in the normal 'wage payment', there are usually other
payments in kind, whether housing, food, transport,
assistance with travel costs etc.
Some scowl at the concept of working for
a charity but experience shows that charity and voluntary
work is usually the most rewarding (on a personal
satisfaction level).
There are of course a number of paid
positions within charity organizations, for example
charity fundraiser is employed, directly or
indirectly, by a charity or related organisation. They
are responsible for achieving an agreed money-raising target
through a wide range of fundraising mediums (including
trust, corporate, statutory, individual, major-donor and
events). In larger charities, the role is likely to focus on
one particular method of fundraising; in smaller charities,
a fundraiser may use a number of different methods.
Fundraisers work with the general public, corporate and
business organisations, and charitable trusts, to raise
awareness of the charity's work, aims and goals. Ultimately,
their aim is to increase the amount and ways those
individuals and groups can contribute. This is on
course just one example, do you have the drive, enthusiasm
and determination that it takes to successfully support a
charity?
