When it comes to job opportunities in education, teaching
English as a foreign language accounts for more
short-term employment opportunities than any other category
of work and provides the ability to gain greater knowledge
of your second/third… language while you teach.
Language
teaching will also provide you access to people from
different backgrounds and afford unique opportunities and
cultural experiences. There are a large number of
international schools that have surfaced in support of
multinational organizations (NATO is one example), which now
provide employment opportunities for English Language
teachers and generic/specialist teachers alike.
A quick
search of the internet will reveal most of these and provide
details where you can submit your CV. Some schemes will
employ you as a teaching assistant in state schools, for
example, the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE)
Teach in China and Teach in Thailand programmers.
You don’t
need to have a degree in English or modern languages to
teach English in another country but a
degree level education will certainly open more doors.
